STEP 1: HOW TO MEASURE YOUR TILL ROLL - what size are your till rolls?

A)     The first & most important measurement you need to take into consideration when buying your till roll is the width indicated above by measurement A. This will determine whether or not the till roll will fit into your receipt printer or credit card machine so it is important to get it right. Use a ruler or measuring tape to measure the width in millimetres.

B)       The next measurement you will need (in millimetres) before choosing what till roll to buy is the diameter of the roll indicated above by measurement B. It is important to make sure you do not order till rolls with a larger diameter, a fatter roll will not fit in the machine and will prevent you from closing the lid. You can however order rolls with a smaller diameter as long as the width is correct.

C)      The last measurement is not really relevant because most till rolls will have the same core size of 12.5mm, but to avoid you worrying about what the last measurement C is we thought it best to let you know.

STEP 2: What Paper to Choose - what size are your till rolls?

There are 3 different types of till rolls to choose from once you know what size you’re looking for.

Thermal till rolls

Thermal till rolls are by far the most commonly used till roll today. Thermal paper changes colour when exposed to heat and this is why machines that use thermal till rolls do not use ink, instead heated print heads touch the paper to produce text on the thermal roll.

Plain Paper till Rolls

Unlike the thermal till rolls, any machines that use plain paper rolls will use ink ribbons to print directly onto the paper. These till rolls have been around the longest and you will find that older machines will use them. When buying plain paper till rolls make sure that the paper is of a high quality, 'A' grade paper. A low quality paper roll will produce a lot of dust which over time will ruin your cash register or credit card machine. All our plain paper rolls are tightly wound and precisely cut for smooth jam-free running. Each and every roll has a strong end of roll indicator mark.

2 Ply till Rolls

These rolls are used when a copy receipt is required as well as the original receipt. The original receipt is always coloured white whilst the copy is generally pink or yellow. They have a coating of micro capsules on one side of the paper that replicates the receipt onto a copy. Like the plain paper rolls a ribbon is required to print onto the paper.
